This is a 17-Volume collection of works of Historical Fiction by Luise Mühlbach, a well-known German Author, who wrote most of her work in the 1860s and early 1870s. Her Books focus on several well-known German and European personalities including Frederick the Great, Joseph the Second, Empress Josephine, Goethe and Schiller, Napoleon, Marie Antoinette, King Henry and others. Her Books were translated into English by several different translators and published as a set by A.L. Fowle, Publisher, of New York in 1905. This Set was not published with Volume Numbers for each Book. Each Book contains 400-650 pages of text and three to five illustrations.There are 20 Volumes in the complete set. Gemstone Publishing, 2006. 4 vols. in slipcase. Very Good in Good slipcase. Slipcase shows shelf and handling wear with rubbed corners, edge wear, and light soiling. Four volumes: Crime Illustrated (Adult Suspense Stories), Confession Illustrated (Adult Romances), Adult Tales of Terror Illustrated (Horror and Suspense), and Shock Illustrated (Adult Crime Stories). All four volumes show very minor shelf and handling wear to their covers with some minor abrasion to the spines as well. Interiors are all crisp, clean, and pristine with no marks. In the gutter of every volume in both the front and the back there is a long thin adhesive bleed-through from production. Overall a clean, solid set showing minimal signs of use. Convent-raised Marguerite de Launay lived a comfortable life until her benefactress died and poverty compelled her to become a lady-in-waiting. Her clever literary gifts emerged at court, where she assisted the Duchess due Maine with her Mémoire des princes légitimes. She was involved in scandals and romances and eventually married to a more secure station. Her memoirs are compelling and humorous reading, and are very much of the time.
Handsome limited edition of the amusing and clear-sighted memoirs. Here with a preface by Mme La Baronne Double and 41 etchings par A.D. Lalauze. In French.

Minor shelf and handling wear to bindings -- edges and corners scuffed, spine tops and bottoms dented, some light white staining on spine of vol. II. Marbled end sheets and text block edges.
