He mentions a Miss Coe "whose things were stored in Chicago," with whom he arrived back in Philadelphia at 1 A.M. Sunday, and for whom he is to sell some pieces on consignment. ".While Mr. duPont will be away August 7th, his Secretary, Mr. Otwell, will show us through the house at Winterthur.The rooms at Winterthur `have never been counted'. Betsey, a single woman, sold to Stevens for $80 "a tract or parcel of Marsh situated in said Warren and bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at the mouth of a Creak on the easterly side of St. George River called Dunham Creak, thence up said Creak about twelve rods to a cross Trench, thence." Warren County, NJ: Not published, 1840. Original. not bound. Good. One page, integral address leaf. George Scranton settled at Oxford, New Jersey in 1828. He and his brother, Selden, author of this letter, built smelting furnaces at Oxford, NJ in 1839, and later at Slocum, Pennsylvania, renamed Scranton, PA. Herein, Selden sends to Major Perrine "Mr. Giles Wheeler's order for 6 mules, the choice of the 8 that he left with you for keeping some time ago. I gave Mr. Wheeler one of my best teams for the above mentioned 6 & I hope they will prove as good as he recommended them to me to be.If you have a pair of good working mules & can agree as to price with my Brother, I will remit you my note." Perrine's address is noted as "abt 5 or 6 miles east from Freehold," although present-day Perrineville is west of Freehold. 12.25" x 8". (more information)

The current market is 11 cents for chickens, 15 cents for ducks, 6 cents for geese, 6 cents for light pork, &c. "Ducks are very scarce," so Stephen "might do well to buy up a lot of them. I would shut up the poultry and let them remain without food for a little time before you kill them. Let me know when I shall meet Stephen at the Jersey City Ferry." These books contain complete, formal minutes, handwritten by several secretaries over the years. Included are: elections of officers; reports of the officers as well as the chaplain, conductor, pianist, etc.; reports on parties, lectures, fundraisers, bazaars, services, card club, and many ritual ceremonies. Now it will not do to have both caucuses on one day.I can't make any calculation what the Democrats will do in this District."
