Description

1st U.S. edition. Printed in Great Britain by R. J. Acford Ltd., Chichester, Sussex, England. From the d.j.: "The war of 1914-18 was a remarkable and important epoch for many widely different reasons. Not least of these was that it represented the first widespread use of the airplane--which many people thought would be of little military value--as a major weapon of war. Such thinking was quickly disproved, and the airplanes described in this volume illustrate how the military airplane developed from the unarmed observation machines of 1914 to the highly effective specialized machines that were in service by November of 1918." The presentation of the aircraft provides a "complete library in one volume". Dozens of airplanes are pictured and described, not just Great Britain planes but also those of Italy and Germany.
