About This Item
Murray, Utah: Pharos, 1945. First Edition. Octavo. 121 pages, plus a two page note by Margaret Webster who directed the unpublished play in 1940 when it was aborted first by the clear hints of repressed sexuality in a Southern community from a fire and other misadventures. The author's first book though he had shown a rough draft in 1940 to his instructor John Gassner, drama critic of the New York Herald. Once published in this small print edition by Pharos publishers in Utah in 1945, his writing began to attract Broadway producers who saw something of his raw power before The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire. Bound in blue paper wraps with yapped edges, printed in red some toning to edges. A very good copy.
