About This Item

London: J. M. Dent & Sons, Ltd, 1923. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Good Only. 11" by 8.5". Unamed. A lovely example of this work of this biographical work by Haldane Macfall, in which he discusses the life and work of the English artist and designer Claud Lovat Fraser. A biography of the artist Claud Lovat Fraser. Born in the London in the late 19th century, Lovat Fraser established himself as a multidisciplinary artist and designer post World War One, designing everything from cards, to stage designs and interiors. After being commissioned as the designer for a landmark production of 'As You Like It' directed by Nigel Playfair, Fraser cemented himself as a theatrical designer of note. Sadly just as his career as a theatrical designer began to gain momentum, with the success of another collaboration with Playfair, Fraser tragically passed away at the young age of 31. This particular biography is by the art critic and writer, Haldane Macfall. Illustrated with 21 plates. Collated complete. The coloured plates featured in this volume are bright and vibrant with additional black and white in-text illustrations throughout. A delightful work celebrating the life and work of this noted 20th century artist. In a quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards and held in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally generally smart, with shelfwear to the extremities, and fading to the head and tail of the spine and the odd spot to the fore edge. The dustwrapper is worn with a large section of loss to the head of the spine and additional loss to the tail. A closed tear to the front joint, alongside several chips and closed tears to the extremities of the wrap, with a section of loss to rear of the wrap to the tail. The spine is rubbed and age toned, with the odd handling mark and a large scratch mark to the front of wrap. Internally the wrap is light age toned with spotting. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot. Very Good Indeed
