London : Printed by Richard Bishop for Daniel Pakeman 1641. This is a reissue of the 1641 ed. (Wing T3145) with the old title page still bearing the imprint Printed by Richard Bishop for Daniel Pakeman 1641.The E.G in the imprint is probably Edward Griffin II. Wing T3145. A popular work. Daniel is also known as a poet and playwright, and as master of the queen's revels. This work was printed at the Queen's expense for 10 years. After some years as a popular poet and playwright of note ("Spencer...described him as surpassing everyone in sight, and Shakespeare had begun to borrow from him freely, especially for his narrative poems and sonnets". Daniel moved on to a long poem called "Civil Wars", concerning the medieval conflct which raged between the houses of Lancaster and York. He also became rather a darling favorite of the court and spent some years under royal patronage; these, too often marked by controversy and even scandal. After periods of considerable financial struggle, he moved from London to the country, smoothing over those difficulties, and morphing into those pursuits which would carry him through to his end of days - a writing of a history of England. (H. A. Sellers, 'A bibliography of the works of Samuel Daniel, 1585-1623') and the ODNB).
