UK 1st Edition, 1943. 100 full-page duotone cartoon illustrations with printed captions. Near Very Good condition, with small patches of fading to the spine where holes in the dustwrapper have led to exposure to light, and minor patchy browning to front pastedown. Otherwise clean and tight with no inscriptions. In Fair to Good dustwrapper which is not price-clipped (Published price 12s 6d). The scarce wrapper has loss to the spine and edge chips/tears. It is now protected by a non-adhesive, acid-free, transparent dustwrapper protector which could easily be removed if required.
This is a first UK edition of the first anthology of drawings of the enormously popular Addams family series. Only a few of the cartoons feature the Addams Family, while others reflect the wartime conditions. During World War II, Addams served at the Signal Corps Photographic Center in New York, where he made animated training films for the U.S. Army. In late 1942, he met his first wife, Barbara Jean Day, who purportedly resembled his cartoon character Morticia Addams.
