El Testamento de Don Hernando Colon y otros documentos para su biografía.: The most authoritative edition of the will of Hernando Colon/Ferdinand Columbus.

by Hernandez Diaz, José y Muro Orejón, Antonio

  • Used
  • Hardcover
xxxviii, [2], 319 pages (including black and white photographs of documents held in the Biblioteca Colombina).

Slight rubbing to top corners of the boards. Very neat paper repairs to the bottom corners of pages ix – xxiv, not touching text. Very small blemish (remains of paper label?) to front end-paper. Spanish text clean and unmarked.

Includes "the most authoritative edition of the will" of Hernando Colon/Ferdinand Columbus, son of Christopher Columbus (Edward Wilson-Lee, The Catalogue of Shipwrecked Books, London, 2019, page 343). This volume was produced to coincide with the quadricentennial anniversary of the death of Hernando Colon (the volume contains 105 documents reproduced in text format and 4 in photographic facsimiles covering 66 pages.

A note to the reader explains that previous publications have contained textual errors arising from mistakes in copies obtained from the original documents held by the Biblioteca Colombina. The intention in producing this publication was to "remedy these shortcomings, some of which are of paramount importance." A number of documents are published in facsimile for the first time – el testament de Hernando, el codicilo, el inventario de las escrituras de Hernando, las declaraciones de albacea Marcos Felipe [i.e. the executor of Hernando's estate].

With 32 pages of introduction and context to the documents, a 10-page index list of persons mentioned in the individual documents, and a 3-page index of place-names mentioned in the documents, this volume is an important and scarce resource for historians and researchers.

This is a heavy and high value volume and, as a consequence, the shipping cost (using a tracked and signed for service) will be higher than the average quoted in my store listings. Please contact me if you wish further details.

Good- Condition/ No dj included. Please see stock photo for typical condition. "Pablo Neruda is one of the most influential and widely read 20th-century poets of the Americas. "No writer of world renown is perhaps so little known to North Americans as Chilean poet Pablo Neruda," observed New York Times Book Reviewcritic Selden Rodman. Numerous critics have praised Neruda as the greatest poet writing in the Spanish language during his lifetime. John Leonard in the New York Times declared that Neruda "was, I think, one of the great ones, a Whitman of the South." Among contemporary readers in the United States, he is largely remembered for his odes and love poems."
