About This Item
New York & London: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1909. Book. Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. Small octavo. (MCMIX). "The main ideas underlying the treatment here found of English orthography were embodied in an article which appeared in the Atlantic Monthly for June, 1907," but much was cut from that article, so the author restored them here, in enlarged form. In other words, the author goes on at some length expounding the virtues of his proposals for simplified spelling, wishing at the same time to bring into conformity the two languages which are English. The one which is written/read, and the one which is spoken. Deep blue boards w/blue cloth backstrip, gilt lettering and rule, top edge gilt, 357 pages (including verbal and general indices). Spine moderately cocked, scuffed/lightly soiled covers, bumped/moderately worn corners/spine ends, previous owner's name/date on front pastedown..
