The original edition of this is quite uncommon. This oddity has two title-pages. What appears to be the original title-page has multipl,e imprints and a date in Arabic numerals, and a woodcut of a family in a library. Facing it is a full-page woodcut of a kitchen scene as a frontispiece (Neither found in the first edition). Both woodcuts are designed by William Croome: the kitchen scene is engraved by Alexander Anderson ( America's first important wood engraver), and the library scene by Alonzo Hartwell. Crome was a member of the Hudson River School, an co-produced the "Panorama of the Hudson River from New York to Albany"; he also taught F. O. C. Carley. [ Not inRosenbach's EARLY AMERICAN CHILDREN'S BOOKS, or Osborne]. " ... man can only receive the full fevelopment of his physical, intellectual and moral faculties through a process of teaching and training - Preface."

Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
