About This Item
London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., 1892. Leather. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". Not Stated. A fascinating work by the important physicist John Tyndall, in a half calf prize binding. The eleventh edition of this work in a half calf prize binding, with the gilt crest of King Edward VI Grammar School to the front board. All edges, end papers and paste downs marbled. Prize bookplate to the front paste down, dated 1896. 25 illustrations. Collated complete. John Tyndall (1820-1893) was a prominent 19th-century physicist. His scientific fame arose in the 1850s from his study of diamagnetism. Later he made discoveries in the realms of infrared radiation and the physical properties of air, proving the connection between atmospheric CO2 and what is now known as the greenhouse effect. He also published more than a dozen science books which brought experimental physics to a wide audience. This work concentrates on the various forms of water. In a half calf prize binding. Externally smart, with some rubbing to the extremities and spine. The boards are lightly soiled and there is a faint stain to the leather to the front board. Gilt is bright. Very Good
