A complete six volume set of this detailed history of the war in the Peninsula and in the South of France, with illustrations. Complete in six volumes. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece to volume one, and a total of fifty-five maps and plans. Collated complete. Volume one contains ten plates, volume two contains twelve plates, volume three contains nine plates, volume four contains eleven plates, volume five contains eleven plates, and volume six contains two plates. A detailed and comprehensive history of The Peninsular War, a military conflict fought in the Iberian Peninsula by Spain, Portugal, and the United Kingdom against the invading and occupying forces of the First French Empire during the Napoleonic Wars. With chapters on dissensions in the Spanish court, operations in Catalonia, the political position of Napoleon, Written by General Sir William Francis Patrick Napier, a British soldier in the British Army and a military historian. In the original half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light wear to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Minor loss to the tips of the boards with light loss of the paper binding to volumes one. Sympathetic reinforcement made to the joints of volume five with cloth tape. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Light spotting and minor age toning to the endpapers. Good
