A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. Softening to spine tips, small bump to the lower edge of the front panel. The contents, with light spotting to the endpapers and a neat, small previous owner's label affixed to the lower edge of the rear pastedown are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper, that is a little toned to the spine a little toned. Not price-clipped (30s. net to the front flap). One of a series of books by the author on Islam in Africa. "Dr. Trimingham here subjects West African Muslim society to an interdisciplinary analysis, drawing on his skills as a social scientist and as an Islamic scholar. [He] believes that not until historical and empirical research has established an unequivocal foundation can a "more imaginative approach to the religious survey, that of intuitive understanding and deeper insight" be undertaken in the African context. The author sets out to assess both the impact of Islam on African society and the significant reciprocal manner in which the African community molds the Islam it receives."
