About This Item

Tuscaloosa, AL: University of Alabama Press, 2010. 1st ed.. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good plus condition (in very good plus dustjacket), black & white text-photos & drawings, minimal edgewear jacket, top corners few pages little creased. 291 pp. Robert Slayton tells the story of General William Henry Tunner. The author gives original insights into this legendary U.S. Air Force leader. During WW2 he served in Burma. He supplied West Berlin with food and supplies to survive the Soviet blockade (1948 - 1949) and its hold over two million Berliners. The airlift demonstrated the unexpected capacity of air transport in a postwar world.
