First line

As Arthur Miller tells it, the writing of Death of a Salesman began in the winter of 1946/47 with a chance meeting between Miller and his uncle Manny Newman outside the Colonial Theatre in Boston, where Miller's All My Sons was having its pre-Broadway preview: I could see his grim hotel room behind him, the long trip up from New York in his little car, the hopeless hope of the day's business.

From the rear cover

This is the first book to provide a critical history of one of American theaters most famous plays, 'Death of a Salesman.' Murphy offers a detailed account of the most significant Salesman productions throughout the world, on the stage as well as on film, radio, and television.
