First ed.; 345 p., clean and completely unmarked--not ex-lib., no former owner's name or plate; small stain on upper margin of p. 204 and on folded copy of author's passport facing it, with closed tears mended with clear tape, many period documents and photos, including frontis. photo portrait of Myron T. Herrick, U.S. ambassador to France at the beginning of WWI, with tissue guard; fine-quality paper only mildly age-toned, though slightly foxed on end papers; green boards with clear gilt lettering are clean, but in absence of d.j. there is some bumping of corners and slight rubbing at crown of spine. Fascinating account of the Battle of the Marne and the Battle of the Aisne; impressions of the American Ambulance Corps, with which the author served; a German POW camp; wartime Vienna, Berlin, London, Hungary.
