Penguin Books, Middlesex, 1960. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Various. Painting: –list of figures, list of plates, foreword and introduction by author, Sculpture: – notes and bibliography and index. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white photographic reproductions of various artist's work. Brick red coloured cloth covered boards with gilt embossed design on the front panel and on the back panel a black insert and within that insert gilt titles and gilt titles to the head and to the heel of the insert. A look at the hundred-year period, between 1780 and 1880, and the painting and sculpture changes within that 100 year period in European art. Softening of the head and of the heel of the backstrip and some bumping to the top book corners. Rubs and marks to the book panels and fading to backstrip. Dust marks to the top textblock edge and light age toning of the textblock edges and of the internal pages. A few handling marks to the endpapers. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. (6), V-XXII, 288 pages,.
