In a charming cloth binding, with a colour pictorial inlay to the front board.Illustrated with a frontispiece and six plates, one of which is loosely inserted.The work of Charlotte Maria Tucker, a prolific English writer and poet, who wrote under the pseudonym A.L.O.E. (a Lady of England).The thrilling children's novel concerns a perilous adventure in Italy.With a former owner's inscription to the half title, addressed to Millie Peel, from Miss A Auckland, dated 1872. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding, with pictorial onlay to front board. Bumping to back strip head and tail, otherwise externally lovely. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Inscription to half title. Binding strained, but generally firm, with one plate detached and loosely inserted. Pages generally clean and bright, with instances of light spotting and handling marks.
