NY: Viking, 1971. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good +/Very Good. Parliament passed in 1864 the Contagious Diseases Acts to regulate prostitution, but in effect left any woman subject to police harrassment. Educated & well-to-do Josephine Butler took up campaign to repeal the acts and the injustices to women. Dust jacket has a few small closed tears & edgewear.
