Louis D. Rubin, Jr., (1923-2013) was University Distinguished Professor of English, Emeritus, at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and was cofounder of Algonquin Books. Among his more than fifty books are Small Craft Advisory: A Book About the Building of a Boat and, most recently, Where the Southern Cross the Yellow Dog: On Writers and Writing (University of Missouri Press). He lived in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
