Vol. 2 only. 8vo, 8.5 x 5.5 inches, early half maroon leather and dark mauve cloth boards, light wear and rubbing, contents a little toned but very good. Early bookplates of Edward Barrett Curteis and William Fred. D'Arley -- Curteis was an English Whig politician and MP for Rye, Sussex...D'Arley's bookplate is often found on books with Curteis's bookplate but we don't know how the two were related. 480 pp, frontispiece of Joan of Arc, occasional engraved portrait plates: Daniel Dancer, Baron D'Aguilar of Starvation Farm, Chevalier Dessesau Remarkable for his Vanity, Peter the Wild Boy Found in the Woods of Hamlin, William Stevenson the notorious beggar who died worth 900 Pounds, Jane Lewson remarkable for her age and peculiarities, Margaret McAvoy an extraordinary blind girl, Thomas Parr who died at the age of 152 years, Thomas Hudson remarkable for his misfortunes, Henry Constantine Jennings the remarkable virtuoso, Wybrand Lolkes the Dutch dwarf, Old Boots a well known character at Rippon in Yorkshire, Peter Williamson remarkable for his captivity and sufferings, Jenny Darney of Cumberland, plus descriptions of many others without any accompanying plates.
