Chicago: Quadrangle Books, ( 1970 ). First Edition. Hardcover. good. Octavo, 355 pages, clothbacked boards; dj chipped on rear panel In spite of enormous literature on the question of civil liberties, there has been little effort to place it within a larger social context. This pioneering work is a search for the social conditions that affect civil liberties, from the sociological point of view. Political and legal aspects are not ignored, but the emphasis throughout is on personal beliefs, social roles, socio-political situations, social actors, and the importance of particular issues. In the Problems of American Society series. A large portion of this text is concerned with the Cold War-induced problems under the umbrella term of " McCarthyism ".

Robeson, Paul, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Roscoe Dungee. To the President and Congress of the United States of America [Petition] and Typed Letter Bearing Signatures of Robeson, Du Bois, and Dungee. New York: [Communist Party USA], 1947.
Single-page typed letter and two-page petition, printed on rectos only. Each page 8 1/2 x 11 inches (215 x 280 mm).
