The price clipped, moderately soiled jacket is protected by a removable Brodart clear-plastic sleeve. Bottom corner (1/4 inch) of perhaps 9 leaves very lightly damp stained (no text or illustrations are affected). Foxing to endpapers only. All other pages have NO foxing and are clean and unmarked. 1953. First Edition. Limited to 750 copies, this being #519. Printed at the Curwen Press. Illustrated with title page reproductions. Subtitle: "The Production, Taxation, Distribution and Consumption of Food and Drink, Their Use and Abuse in All Times and Among All Peoples." Top edge gilt. Bound in the original maroon cloth, stamped in bright gold on the spine. Complete with dust jacket. Besterman 2248. Sheehy 1238. "This is not a bibliography in the true sense of the word, but a catalog of Mr. Simon's personal library. 'A Catalogue of some of the books which have given me considerable pleasure to collect in the course of the past half-century... ' There are 1,644 titles, many of which are annotated. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines.
