Dora Carrington (1893-1932) was a gifted artist and an intimate of the Bloomsbury set including Virginia Woolf, Augustus John, E.M. Forster. Wyndham Lewis, D. H. Lawrence, and Aldous Huxley each portrayed her in their novels. Married to Ralph Partridge the war hero, she lived with the noted writer Lytton Strachey with whom she was deeply in love. At the same time Partridge and Strachey were intimately involved in their own relationship. After Strachey's death, Dora Carrington killed herself. Her life is portrayed in the 1995 British film Carrington, starring Emma Thompson and directed by Christopher Hampton.
