The English Rock-Garden, Farrer, Reginald. Published by T. C. & E. C. Jack, London, 1919. First Edition. 2 Volumes. 4to up to 12" tall; lxiv, 504, viii, 523pp., illustrated with 102 photographs plates. Green cloth with gilt spine titles. Name and place (Scotland) to pastedown, light outer edge browning and otherwise contents are in fine condition. Striations to spine and otherwise boards show little wear and binding is tight.
This most popular classic was written by Farrer in 1913, but its publication was delayed until 1919, after the end of World War I. Considered the standard tome on rock gardens, it has been reprinted several times. Reginald Farrer (1880–1920), known as the 'Prince of Alpine gardeners' was a plant hunter who made an invaluable contribution to alpine gardening authoring over twenty books and countless articles.
