Clearly organized--typical of Scholes' textbooks--with an especially fine treatment of the different shapes of theaters through the history of drama and the influence that those shapes have had on the drama written for them. Very good paperback copy with light edgewear and sunning. Clean and unmarked.. Soft Cover.

"Equus" won the 1975 Tony Award for Best Play and was filmed in 1977. Shaffer's "Amadeus" was the basis for the film which won eight Academy awards including best picture.. 1st American edition. New York: Dunetz & Lovett, 1964. Very good (white covers show some soil and edgewear). This was originally an insert to a Columbia Records recording of John Gielgud's production of "Hamlet." 34 pages in soft-cover. Many photographs of actors associated with this production and previous Hamlets, such as John Barrymore, Alec Guinness, Laurence Olivier, Peter O'Toole, Michael Redgrave, Paul Scofield, and John Gielgud himself. Richard Burton headlined this production, and there are two pages focusing on him, two more pages focusing on Gielgud during the rehearsal, and two pages of photographs from the production itself, which, according to Gielgud's introduction, was intended to be a "final rehearsal" without the trappings of costumes and scenery. Gielgud's brief essay may be the most interesting contribution here for the Shakespearean scholar and fan.. Soft Cover. Illus. by Photographs.

Paperback script for a drama, a monologue by a Russian Army captain on trial for a crime against his own army. A dramatization and reimagining of an actual incident during WWII involving cannabalism. Peter O'Toole acted in it, according to the cover notes.. 1st Edition. Soft Cover.

New York: Garland Publishing, 1986. Edited by Catherine Shaw. Cokayne was a 17th century English aristocrat, Royalist soldier, poet and dramatist. This is probably his earliest play. Number 17 in the Garland series, "The Renaissance Imagination." Review copy. Fine without dust jacket as issued. . Hard Cover.

Very good+ (bright silver printing on the spine, but some sunning of the cover edges and slight discoloration of the page top edges) in very good dust jacket (rubbed, price-clipped, edgeworn, now protected in Brodart archival plastic). Play about "murder of three believers in Civil Rights," as the dust jacket subtitle indicates. Sklar includes a disclaimer about "actual happenings of the summer of '64," indicating that his play is fictional, including the town of Leucadia. Nonetheless, the historical context is clearly the 1960s civil rights protests and the violence directed at civil rights workers. Sklar was blacklisted during the McCarthy era, and this represents his return to the theatre. Very nice Random House printing, 117 pages.. 1st Edition. Hard Cover.

This is the first printing of Wilson's 1985 revision. Wilson won the Pulitzer Prize in 1980 for "Talley's Folly." 63 pages.. 1st Edition. Hard Cover.

London: Marion Boyars, 1992. Translated from the German and with an introduction by Tania Alexander and Peter Eyre. Fine in near fine dust jacket (a couple of barely visible scratches on back panel). "The Children's Story" was written by Mann at 19, his first important work. "Siblings" is from 1930. The two works, the first a short novel, the second a play, are complementary works in that both involve the secret lives of children. The author was the son of Thomas Mann. His most famous book was "Mephisto," the basis for the movie of the same name. Translated from the German with an Introduction by Tania Alexander and Peter Eyre.. 1st Edition. Hard Cover.
