First Edition 171 pages, and map (somewhat offset and faded), printed dedicatory letter on Territorial Pioneer letterhead filled in by hand, and in ink to R. A. Thompson (identified in pencil as "Editor Sonoma Democrat"), and signed in ink by John C. Burch, dated October 17, 1877. Bound in wrappers, contained in a paper covered cardboard document folder, with a pocket, and typed paper label on spine.

Contents include articles regarding Theodore D. Judah,"The Pioneer Engineer and Successful Projector of the Pacific Railroad," an "Address by J. Ross Browne," an essay on "Explorations Beginning with Padre Fray Pedro Font," Father Altimira's essay on "The First Exploration of the Bay of San Francisco," and other interesting information.
