Profusely illustrated with b&w and colour photographs. "These pictorial encyclopaedias provide a unique reference and a means of quick and easy recognition of cacti and succulents. Every plant illustrated is captioned with its name, together with the Botanical Authority, country of origin, notes on colour, size and general cultivation. Light to moderate edgewear to all volumes, light wrinkling at top or bottom of spines of three volumes, three very tiny corner bumps, slight discoloration at top of textblock of volume one - light migration into top of last few pages, small area of discoloration on top of textblock of volume three, volumes one and two are slightly cracked in several places, wrinkling to rear pastedown of volume two, light stain line at fore-edge of front free endpaper in volume three, minor browning to rear pastedown in volume four. Dust jackets - three are price clipped, all have moderate edgewear with surface paper loss - mainly at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, light edge wrinkling, some areas of light browning, some light rubbing and soiling, corner crease on rear flap of volume four, slight fading to colour on spine of volume one. Two volumes bound in one, 12mo, pp (2), 212; (4), 288, lightly age-toned throughout with the occasional page with mild foxing, otherwise very sound internally, contemporary half calf and marbled boards, rubbed, slightly worn at the corners, rebacked at some point with a later calf spine. The Oates-Selborne copy, with the bookplate of Robert Washington Oates, the later presentation labels to the Gilbert White Museum in1955, and the tiny Bibliotecha Oatesiana stamp on the final page. With the earlier bookplate of the surgeon John Wheeley Gough Gutch. [A pirated edition, without illustrations. It seems scarce - I have only been able to trace two other copies from this publisher in libraries. It is curious that two printers seem to have been involved - H.
