Wear to the joints on v.2, front joint is cracked down to the first compartment, otherwise are tender, covers are lightly rubbed with scattered dark blemishes and minor wear to the gilt edges, top corners on both volumes are slightly chipped and bumped. Stated fourth edition inside, but this publisher (like others in Victorian Britain) often stamped later edition numbers on books to make it seem like the books were in high demand and selling out quickly. Wildly popular in Victorian times, the novel that introduced Svengali to the popular consciousness. Scarce.
