Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Doyle, A. Conan - 1894

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1894. Book. Illus. by WH Hyde and Others. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. A beautiful "New and Revised" edition, in Very Good condition with minor lean and wear to the corner edges. The front of the HB looks like new with it's blue/white cloth, retained gold leathering and fresh looking "Gordius Nodus" illustrated seal. The spine is sun faded and worn at its ends but the gilt lettering is intact. . There are no missing ages or illustrations, although there is some wear to their edges. It also appears that loose pages were reinserted. Historical note: "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box" was immediately removed from the original US edition, and immediately replaced by this edition. The suppression reasons are unclear, though by some accounts Doyle made the request because he thought the adultery subject manner was inappropriate for young readers. But by some other accounts Harpers is the censor believing that the story was too scandalous for American readers. Note that nearly all the stories were made into film beginning in the 1920's. .
