Frederick Dorr Steele (1873 - 1944) was an artist and illustrator. Steele was best known for his characterization of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character, and illustrated many of Doyle's works. Paul Gauguin (1848 - 1903) was a French artist and painter. There is a bookplate on fep, which obscures part of the Gauguin illustrated endpaper. The Sandglass is creased at top corners. . Cloth. Good/No Jacket.
