About This Item

New York: American Book Company, 1933. 12mo size navy blue clothbound hardcover with bright gilt titles on the spine. This binding is a professional library rebinding with stiff pale blue additional endpapers (the original endpapers are also present.) 295 pages with some full page black and white illustrations, including a frontispiece. There is also a smaller map of France. The illustrations are not credited with the name of the artist. This vintage school textbook is a very rare title - there appears to be no other copy for sale. From Preface: "The authors believe Oncle Henri... should prove a useful text for rapid reading at almost any point in the intermediate or advanced French course... It is the authors' hope that the subject matter of this book, presented in a style which is not too difficult, may interest young students of French. They hope too that this book will give its readers some pleasant glimpses which will lead to a wholesome desire for further acquaintance... For the convenience of teachers who are too busy to prepare their own grammatical and conversational drills a series of easy exercises has been added. The book contains also all necessary notes and a full vocabulary... Ex-school library with typical treatments. The deaccessioner has made liberal use of the discard stamp. Full page bookplate inside front cover, creased bottom corner on the blank reverse of frontispiece, number stamp on blank reverse of the last page. Pages are toned. Small bump on bottom edge of back cover, small white colored scrape (transfer) on back cover. Light spot on the bottom margin of page 6, ink transfer in the bottom margin of pages 10-11. Several previously folded page corners. Apparently water stain on the bottom edge of inside covers and endpapers. Cocked spine. . Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Ex-Library.
