John Murray. London. 1977. FIRST EDITION. SIGNED BY STONE, and with 8 ephemeral items of his of printed work. 4to. Fully illustrated with 151 pages of designs, most with several images to each page. Signed by Stone in black ink on the title page. Also there are 8 pieces of his printed work, one inscribed by Stone on the back, loosely inserted; Prospectus for The Old rectory suite of engravings, Bookplate for David Potter, vignette view with 'keepsake from Reynolds Stone' motif below, Waterfall view on single sheet, Bookplate for Iain Bain, Prospectus for Boxwood suite of engravings, Artist in the woods illustration on single sheet, and A child in the woods illustration printed onto card and inscribed by Stone on the rear 'Dear Norah. My spelling gets worse, please forgive dropt H which I realised the moment I posted jacket. Yours Reynolds' and an ink date stamp, 3 Mar 1975. Includes an excerpt from The System of Dante's Hell by Jones and Roosevelt After Inauguration by William Burroughs (Schottlaender v4.C25; Shoaf III-25). An unmarked copy, never folded or mailed, with stains to back cover and a little toning.

A rare early issue of this seminal 1960s little magazine, entirely devoted to work by John Wieners. An unmarked copy (aside from stray doodle to front leaf), folder shadowing to front leaf (which has edge folds), a little marginal staining. (First two leaves are most worn.)

Portrait frontis engravings showing Browning as a young man (dated 1835) opposite the title page of volume 1, and as an old man (1881) for volume 2. Finely bound in contemporary full burgundy calf bindings. Spines with raised bands, each with gilt ruling. Compartments with double ruled and decorated in gilt. Twin tan morocco labels, gilt. Boards with double ruled borders with floral decorations to the corners. Front boards both have circular gilt stamp of Saint Catherine's School, Bramley, Guildford, to the centre. Decorative blind floral borders to the inner boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. School prize labels, dated 1900, to the front pastedown endpapers in each volume. Some minor foxing to the frontispieces and the tissue guards opposite them. Blank white prelim pages are more heavily foxed but the text pages are clean throughout.
