Description:
First UK edition, first impression. Published in the same year as the first US edition and seemingly less common with striking cover art. Publisher's original black cloth with silver lettering to spine and motif to bottom corner of upper board. Light spotting to top edge and some off-setting to endpapers with a previous owner name to front endpaper and a few ticks in red biro next to some of the titles listed on half-title verso, otherwise very good. The original dust jacket is price-clipped and has some wear and a few tears to top edge with some rubbing and chipping to spine panel, primarily to the top. A good or better copy of an uncommon edition.

First edition, first impression (Faber and Faber, 1964). Signed, inscribed and dated by the author in the year of publication: 'Inscribed very gladly for June Buttrey, Philip Larkin 09 iii 64'. One of the most iconic collections of post-war poetry featuring many of Larkin's best-known poems including 'The Whitsun Weddings', 'Days', 'Mr Bleaney', 'MCMXIV' and 'Arundel Tomb'.
Publisher's original purple cloth with lettering to spine in gilt. A fine book, with just a few isolated and faint spots to front endpaper, in a near fine or better dust jacket with just a touch of mild edge wear to the top edge and a minuscule chip to spine head.
A superb example, housed in an attractive green drop-back box. Signed or inscribed examples such as this are extremely rare with only a few appearing for sale over the last couple of decades.
