Good plus condition in dust jacket. The dust jacket has some chipping. Père de Vaux has signed his name on the front free endpaper: "R. de Vaux, Yale, 9th Nov, 1964". Above it, in another hand, is :"R. Lansing Hicks, New Haven, 1963". It would appear that Prof Hicks – a former professor of Old Testament at Yale - probably brought his copy of the book to a lecture that Père de Vaux gave at Yale and had him sign it. New in dust jacket. $17.50 This is the first complete translation in English of Oecumenius's commentary, which is the first known Greek commentary on the book of Revelation. Written in the sixth century but discovered only at the beginning of the twentieth, it presents a fascinating view of a writer who strove to be faithful to the teaching of the church while at the same time allowing his imagination to make sense of the stories and visions of Revelation. In interpreting the events surrounding the destruction of the wicked he shows sensible pastoral restraint and refuses to be swayed by the dogmatic certainty shown even by some modern interpreters.

Dublin: Royal Irish Academy, 1936, 59p, plus collotype reproductions. Measures approximately 21"x17", weighs almost 10 pounds. A beautifully printed book, letterpress on hand-made paper. This edition of the Milan glosses has to be one of the most impressive books printed in Ireland in the twentieth century. Fine condition.

Old and New Testaments plus appendix "Anhang", last 82 pages. Book is in good condition, black cover and gilt lettering. Name of owner on title page. Paper is printed on the very thin paper that is often used to keep a large work from becoming a multi-volume and cumbersome work. Thus, some pages have wrinkling and folding. Everyone is aware of the dependence of the Protestant churches on the various "solas", Sola Scriptura, Sola Fidei, etc. Martin Luther added a sola, or "only", "allein", in German, in Romans 3:28. He never denied that he did but said it was implied. The "allein" is printed in this edition of Luther's translation. $10.00
