About This Item

New York: St. Martin's Press, 1998. First Edition, First Printing. . Trade Paperback. Very Good to Near Fine/Issued Without Jacket. The Advance Uncorrected Proofs of Satterthwait's second novel featuring Pinkerton detectives Phil Beaumont and Jane Turner, this time sent to 1920s Paris to investigate the deaths of Richard Forsythe, a rich American publisher, and his German mistress in a locked room-suicide pact. As their investigation takes them from saloons to salons, from catacombs to cafes, Phil and Jane meet Hemingway and Gertrude Stein as well as a variety of other luminaries and lesser lights, some of whom represent a deadly force that doesn't want them to leave Paris alive. Text of this proof copy shows only a touch of edgewear, is o/w clean and unmarked, tight and square. The plain paper wrappers show a light, dime-sized stain on the front cover and some light creasing, no tears or other significant flaws.
