Philadelphia: Porter & Coates. The Alta Edition of this mid-19th century book by historian Henry C. Watson describing some 40 battles fought by Napoleon and the French during the first half of the century from the battle of Toulon in 1793 to Waterloo in 1815. About 5 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches, 448 pages plus 16 pages of publisher's ads bound in light blue paper-covered boards with stamped floral graphic designs on front cover and spine. Illustrated with numerous black & white prints. Copyright stated as 1854, no indication of edition or printing. Boards show soiling, edgewear and wear at spine ends and light bumping at corners. Text block edges are somewhat soiled and there is light foxing and occasional stains thoughout text. On the other hand, text is complete and free of underlining/highlighting except several initials on end pages. Book is complete, without tears or other significant flaws or damage. Overall, a very decent copy of this early edition. . Good. Hardcover. 1854.
