About This Item
Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc., 1975. Hardcover. Very Good. Marion Davies, a New York girl, met publisher Willaim Randolph Hearst while she was playing in the Ziegfeld Follies about 1915. It was the beginning of a relationship lasting more than 30 years and during which, with Hearst's help, Davies became a major Hollywood star and multi-millionaire. This book, edited by Pamela Pfau and Kenneth Marx, is Davies' memoir of those years. It was withheld from publication until after Davies' death. First edition, early printing. About 7 1/4 x 10 1/4 inches, 275 pages bound in black & brown marbled, paper-covered boards with title centered in gold on front cover and gold lettering on spine. Illustrated with numerous b & w celebrity photos and several charts detailing aspects of Davies' life, such as an inventory of her jewelry and a listing of her movies and their revenue/losses. Also includes a foreword by Orson Welles and an index. Sorry, no dustjacket. Boards show only very minor wear along edges and spine ends. Previous owner's bookplate on inside cover and small "shadow" on fep where price sticker was removed. Text is complete, clean and unmarked. No significant flaws or damage. Not ex-library or remaindered. A must-have for anyone studying the history of entertainment and celebrity in the U.S.
