New York: Books, Inc., 1944. First Edition Thus. . Hardcover. Very Good. Walling was a British author of a series of "very English" mystery novels in the 1930s and '40s. The 18th novel in Walling's series featuring "private inquiry agent" Peter Tolefree has Tolefree called in to straighten out what he believes is a lover's quarrel, only to find himself with a well-dressed corpse with a "vacant stare and pupils the size of a pin point." First American Printing (stated), First Edition Thus (originally issued by Morrow in 1942). About 5 1/4 x 7 3/4 inches, 278 pages in black paper-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. Top edge of text stained red. Sorry, no dustjacket. Lower corner of front cover lightly bumped, text very slightly age-toned. O/w, boards and text are clean, complete and unmarked. Binding tight and square. Nice reading copy for those who like their mysteries with castles and butlers.
