New York: Smithmark Publishers, Inc., 1995. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. A classic of military history and the American Civil War, originally published in 1910 and titled: "Chancelllorsville: A Strategic and Tactical Study." Developed from Bigelow's extensive and exhaustive research while was a professor of military history at MIT. First Smithmark edition, first printing thus, (with complete numberline). About 7 x 9 1/2 inches, 528 pages including appendices, bibliography and index. Bound in grey paper-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. The dustjacket's front panel shows b&w head-and-shoulders photos of Lee and Hooker, the commanding generals, against a marbled background with author and title in blue-colored box above photos. Boards and text are clean, complete and unmarked. No significant or noticeable damage or flaws. Dustjacket shows only a touch of wear at spine ends. No creases, tears or surface wear. Not corner-clipped. A collectable copy. Bigelow, an 1877 graduate of West Point, was a veteran of the Indian Wars and hunt for Geronimo as well as the Spanish-American War in 1898. He retired in 1904 to accept the post at MIT but came out of retirement to serve again with the U.S. Army in World War I and II.
