A limited edition collection of 28 short stories by Edgar Allan Poe, including "Murders in the Rue Morgue," "The Purloined Letter," "The Fall of The House of Usher," "The Masque of the Red Death," "William Wilson," and "The Pit and the Pendulum." Illustrated with 16 full-page photogravures of the original acquatints by William Sharp. Includes an introduction by Vincent Starrett. First Edition Thus (Reprinted from the 1941 Limited Editions Club issue.). 6 3/4 x 10 1/4 inches, 366 pages in marbeled paper-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine. Protected by blue, heavy-card slipcase. Dark blue spine has faded considerably though gilt lettering remains intact and legible. O/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square. The slipcase shows some wear and fading at edges and corners but remains sturdy with no structural flaws or damage. Given the faded spine, this is a reading copy but one that can be read with real pleasure in the illustrations and in Poe's genius.

Synopsis

Tales of Mystery and Imagination , stories by American author Edgar Allan Poe have been compiled by Padraic Colum into a thrilling collection focused on Poe’s suspenseful stories. The first edition compiled by Padraic Colum was published in 1908 by Geoffrey Newnes Ltd. and includes an introduction by Colum explaining his decision to exclude Poe’s poems, comedies, and essays from the collection. A later 1919 edition, published by George G. Harrap & Co., includes 24 full-page black and white plates by famous illustrator Harry Clarke. An album by The Alan Parsons Project was named after the short story compilation and contains several songs based on the tales included.
