About This Item

New York: Viking Penguin, 1998. Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. A late entry in award-winning novelist and poet Dobyns' mystery-detective series featuring Charlie Bradshaw. The Saratoga Springs private detective must again save his long-time friend, Victor Plotz, from Plotz's own greed. This time Plotz hires on to transport a suitcase across the border from Montreal to Saratoga Springs, a money-making opportunity that quickly turns to murder. First edition, first printing. About 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches, 198 pages in red paper-covered boards with blue backstrip and gold lettering on spine. Pictorial dustjacket shows a man in straw hat and white suit holding a gun while sneaking look at blonde woman wearing only a snake, both being watched by an older man with small white dog on his lap. All three are on a race track with three racing horses and jockeys headed in their direction. Back panel of dj has four blurbs praising the Saratoga series. Boards show only slightly bumped spine ends, text edges lightly foxed, o/w boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked, not ex-library, not remaindered. Dustjacket shows only tiny nick at one corner, no tears, chipping, creasing or scratches. A very collectable book from this humorous, good-natured mystery series.
