Washington, D.C.: Washington Law Book Co., 1937. Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. A collection of 50 trials, most from English and American history and including Socrates, Queen Anne, Joan of Arc, and Captain Kidd as well as more modern, 20th century trials such as the Scopes evolution trial, Dr. Crippen, Leo Frank, and the Lindbergh kidnapping, the last trial in the book, which ended with Hauptmann's execution in 1935, less than 2 years before the book's publication. First edtion, first printing. About 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches, 344 pages in pebbled blue cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on front cover and spine. Includes brief bibliography and alphbetical index. Plain white dustjacket's front panel lists all 50 trials under a blue banner stating "Famous Trials" in white. Back panel is identical with front, with inside fold containing brief biography of author and rear fold a list of five publisher's ads under "What Lawyers Buy For General Reading!" Previous owner's name stamped on fep, o/w boards and text show only a touch of soiling to text edges. Complete, clean and unmarked. Not ex-library, not remaindered. No noticeable flaws or damage such as tears, creases or bumped corners. Binding is tight, hinges intact. Dustjacket (now in Brodart protector) is somewhat soiled with rubbing and considerable edge wear including a two-inch tear at top of front panel and chipping at both bottom corners and spine ends. Nearly all of the dj's printing and design are intact. We should note each "trial" is an easy-to-read, four-or-five page summary, not a detailed description in technical "legalese." The dj is well worn; the book itself is collectable and scarce.
