About This Item

London: PRC Publishing Ltd., 2001. Hardcover. Near Fine/About Very Good. The American Civil War was arguably the most important military event of the 19th century. It has spawned millions of words in thousands of books. This book, from "A -- Abolitionists" to "Z -- Zoaves" differs from most of the rest for its massive visual documentation, reproducing over 600 photographs, maps, drawings, letters and other documents related to every aspect of the war. First edition, first printing (as stated). Oversize, about 9 1/4 x 12 1/4 inches, 448 pages including preface, index and credits. Pictorial paper-covered boards show full-cover reproduction of a photo of Union siege mortar and crew on front cover and photos of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee & his staff (top) and a scene taken in Richmond, VA, after its capture by Union troops. The same photos and layout are also utilized on the dustjacket. Blue and white lettering also identical. The fep contains a gift inscription to the previous owner, o/w boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked. Not ex-library, not remaindered. No noticeaable damage or flaws. The dustjacket shows a one-inch tear and crease on bottom edge of front panel, small tears and creasing at spine ends. Dj remains whole, with no loss of graphics. This is a reference/study copy, or just one to page through to be reminded of what wars are really about. [Due to its size & weight, this book will require additional postage on priority/express orders or orders outside the U.S.)
