About This Item

Chapel Hill, N.C.: Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 2001. First Edition. . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. The prize-winning Berne raises intriguing questions about the perfect family and families that "have it all" in this novel featuring Mirella and Howard Cook-Goldman, who both have careers, two children, a golden retriever and an historic colonial house in a quaint New England village. Except the children have problems, the house is a wreck, and Howard's career is stalling just when Mirella's is taking off. And they need a new au pair to replace the one who just left. Enter Randi Gill, the perfect nanny, who soon has house, kids and neighborhood in working order. But perfection is hard to maintain and when the new situation forces husband and wife to reveal secrets they've kept from each other, it also forces the perfect nanny to reveal secrets of her own. Boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The dustjacket shows only a touch of wear on the upper edges, no tears, no chipping or creasing, not price-clipped. A collectable copy.
