About This Item

New York: Simon & Schuster, 1996. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. The third novel in Hautman's series of darkly humorous crime thrillers (think Leonard or Hiaasen) set in the edgy, criminal underbelly of Minnesota features 73-year-old Axel Speeter and his equally senior friends Sam O'Gara and Tommy Fabian. In their younger days the trio made a living as gamblers crisscrossing the West in Axel's '56 Lincoln but they all live quieter lives now, with Axel happily squirreling away more than a quarter million in coffee cans, profits from his taco stand at the state fair, until one of his employees, the spectacularly-endowed Carmen and a skinhead ex-con named James Dean, decide to try to take it away from him. Signed by Hautman on the title page. Boards and text are clean, tight, square; the dustjacket shows only very minimal surface and edgewear. A Fine, collectable copy.
