A Romance novel set on an estate in Maryland and featuring Cecily Merryman, newly employed as a "companion" to the wealthy Mrs. Blair Marburg, a bitter, jealous and frightened invalid, in a houseful of people with a variety of selfish objectives. Pictorial wrappers show light creasing and edgewear with laminate beginning to loosen, o/w no tears, chipping or other significant flaws. Previous owner's name and date on fep and text lightly age-tanned. O/w clean and unmarked, binding tight and square.
