Arguably the two best known works by Parkman, presenting his experiences and observations accompanying Indians on the 'Oregon Trail' during a period of westward expansion by settlers during the Mexican War of 1848, and the blood-curdling account of the infamous uprising against British America by Indians - aided and abetted by the bitter French of the period following the 'French and Indian War' of the mid-eighteenth century. Hardcover with dust jacket, contains chronological and textual notes, 951pp. A very nice copy, the jacket in a protective cover, tasseled, and with the usual ex-lib markings. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
