This copy was for Doubleday editor Mary E. Slavin and is signed in her hand. A brief tribute to the noted publisher who founded Doubleday & McClure in 1897. His nickname “Effendi” was coined by Rudyard Kipling as a phonetic spelling of Doubleday's initials and a play on the Turkish title of respect. Slender clothbound hardcover. 8 x 5.5 inches. 17 pp. Two plates, including frontispiece photo of Doubleday. VG with some fading, wear at the extremities. Sound binding.
