About This Item

New York: Frederick A. Stokes Company. Hardcover. 92pp printed on coated paper on the recto only. Half morocco over cloth, spine lettered in gold, all edges sprinked, red endpapers. John Boos' red ex-libris printed on the verso of the title. Lincoln's portrait is printed in red on the background of every fourth leaf. The illustrations differ from the original version. This copy has a portrait of Lincoln on photographic paper bound in after the title, a different one bound in after page 71, a photo of the house in which Lincoln died, a photo of Ford's theatre, and a facsimile of the program of Ford's theatre pasted on the last leaf. The index included in the original edition is not present so the pagination also differs. The rest of the text including Notes, Correction of Some Commonly Accepted Stories, and Bibliography were retained. Three clippings about Lincoln's last day from a contemporary era newspaper are laid in. John Boos, of Albany, NY, was a prominent Lincoln collector and author. Leather shows some wear to edges and corner tips but overall this is a truly unique item in near fine condition. ; Octavo.
